Learn to Read Hebrew- About the Authors
Robert I. Spitz, Phd., known to his colleagues and friends as Dr. Bob, has spent over forty-five years in public and Jewish education. Throughout his career he has taught Hebrew reading and language to students from elementary through high school age. His passion for Jewish education has grown with his years of service as a Hebrew teacher and Director of Religious Education. He has published Judaic articles for children as a staff member of Shofar Magazine and has served as President of his synagogue, a member of the Education commission of METNY region of United Synagogue, President of Long Island Conservative Principals Council, Long Island Advisory Council BJE, and as a member of the Board of JEA.
Dr. Bob has been married to his beautiful wife, Mimi, for forty seven years and is currently in his sixteenth year as Education Director of Temple Beth Torah in Westbury, New York.
Shirley Cappell, BA Education, MSc. Literacy, has enjoyed a lengthy career in both general and Jewish studies in the U.K., Australia and the USA. Ms. Cappell has held positions as Head of the Jewish Studies Department, Mount Sinai College, Sydney, Australia and Head of General Studies, Lubavitch Day School, Chicago, Illinois.
Ms. Cappell is a reading and literacy specialist in the Oceanside, New York school district and has earned her Reading Recovery certification from NYU. She specializes in working with children who have difficulties learning to read. She is the Hebrew reading and tutorial program coordinator at Temple Beth Torah Religious School in Westbury, New York, where she continues utilizing her skills to help children learn to read Hebrew.
